Born Learning Trail Now at Hillcrest Park
A new Leadership Skagit project at Hillcrest Park aims to combine education with outdoor fun.
Leadership Skagit team Skagit Reign recently installed a “Born Learning Trail” at the park, which encourages young children and their caregivers to explore the park through learning.
“Every day is a learning experience,” said Debbie Aldridge, a member of team Skagit Reign. “You don’t have to be sitting at a desk to learn; you can be out doing things.” The team, which installed a similar trail at Storvik Park in Anacortes, hope the trails will help prepare children for kindergarten.
Skagit Reign worked closely on the project with the United Way of Skagit County, which recently announced a new goal of by 2025, having every child in the county ready to learn by the time they enter kindergarten. “It’s really about ‘How can we make a difference in the community?’” United Way of Skagit County board member Sue Krienen said. “That’s how you make the community stronger is by getting families involved.”
