As you know, Mount Vernon plays host to a number of exciting events year-round. With the new year on the horizon, we’d like to let you know more about the annual events and what’s happening in Mount Vernon and the Skagit Valley in 2020.
From tulip festivals and street fairs to other regular events that take place in downtown Mount Vernon, you won’t have to look far for something fun to do. As one of the most beautiful and agriculturally rich areas in the country, many of the events center around our region’s abundance of produce, which includes everything from flowers to beer, and everything in between.
To give you a heads up on what’s happening in the area in 2020, here are some of the events taking place that you can put in your diary right away.
Mount Vernon Events 2020
1. Skagit Valley Tulip Festival
Tulips are some of the most iconic flowers in the world, and there is nothing like seeing rows and rows of these beauties as you drive through the Skagit Valley.
What started as an experiment in the late 1800’s has now blossomed, literally, into one of the area’s most prominent annual events. To make the most of this time of year, visit Tulip Town for the Tulip Festival from the end of March until the beginning of May.
Bring the whole family along to not only appreciate all of the tulips in bloom but also take part in some fun family-friendly activities and visit the retail market for some unique arts and crafts.
2. Mount Vernon Tulip Festival Street Fair
As if going to see the flowers up close during the tulip festival wasn’t enough, you’ll also be able to enjoy this time of year more fully with the annual Tulip Festival Street Fair, which takes place from April 17th to April 19th in 2020.
Located halfway between Seattle, WA, and Vancouver, BC, this event draws large crowds to downtown Mount Vernon and is the first annual outdoor art fair in Northwest Washington.
With artisan vendors, food concessions, non-profit group displays, and live entertainment, this is an event for the whole family. What’s more, by attending this event, you’ll be supporting fundraising efforts for the nonprofit Mount Vernon Downtown Association.
3. Farmers Market
There’s nothing quite like going out to a farmers’ market in the summertime. It presents the perfect opportunity to load up on local produce and try some of the area’s variety of delicious artisan goods.
In Mount Vernon, you can visit the Farmers Market every Saturday between May 16th and October 12th. And from June 5th to August 28th, you can also visit the market on Wednesdays. This gives you more than enough time to appreciate the abundance of local fare.
Some highlights of the market include a variety of seasonal vegetables, as well as various food vendors that will give you enough to snack on while you fill up your basket.
4. Downtown Mount Vernon Concert Series
While food and local produce might be a focus on this list, live entertainment is also an important part of the Mount Vernon annual calendar.
In particular, the Mount Vernon Riverwalk Summer Concert Series is a highlight and takes place weekly from the second week of July through to the end of August.
During this time, bring your lawn chairs, your partner and/or friends, and enjoy some live music in downtown Mount Vernon. You’ll get the chance to appreciate being outdoors in the summertime on Skagit Riverwalk Plaza.
Highlights from last year’s event included performances by Ken Pickard & Zydeco Explosion and Johnny Bulldog. What’s more, as a local chamber of commerce initiative, these events are completely free.
5. Skagit Valley Highland Games
From shopping, flower appreciation, and enjoying some outdoor live music, we now turn to one of the area’s more active annual events – the Skagit Valley Highland Games. Each year, this takes place at Edgewater Park in downtown Mount Vernon.
Celebrate Celtic traditions , sponsored by the Celtic Arts Foundation, with a number of traditional activities like music, dance, athletic events, sheepdog trials and more. Some regional producers even brew their own beer to celebrate the occasion!
So bring the family, get ready for some tug of war, and enjoy one of Mount Vernon’s most celebrated community events from July 11-12, 2020.
Other Events
In addition to the events above, be sure to also look out for the Annual Sidewalk Sale, the Skagit County Fair, events taking place at the Lincoln Theater, Brewfest on The Skagit, Skagit Woodstock and the Oyster Run.
With so many items to add to the calendar, there is no doubt that 2020 is going to be a fun year for everyone. Note these dates down, tell your friends and family, and we look forward to seeing the whole community at one or more of these annual Mount Vernon events in 2020!
